With blogging now up and going, it’s time to play catch-up from the last few months. How about a little Christmas in July? Vintage Christmas and winter displays filled Owen’s grandparents’ back yard. Their back yard was the perfect spot for a December shoot. It was like walking into a winter wonderland, minus the snow. Mom, Dad, and Owen had a great time with the old fashioned jingle bells. A few rounds of jingle bells got some giggles out of Mr. Owen. Everyone was full of Christmas spirit during this shoot!
Blogging has been quite slow the last few months, but with good reason…
I know it’s May and everyone is well out of the “New Year” phase, but this is my first post of the new year. With the start of the new year, my husband and I decided it was time for Ashley McGiffen Photography to become a registered business with the state of Indiana. It was a scary step, but a step that was ready to be taken. Along with that giant step came one that I have been planning out for a while, but have just been too scared to act upon…creating a website. We felt I had reached a point where it was time to display more than just a few photos here and there on facebook. The time had come for me to take a big leap of faith and put my work out there for the world to see. This is a huge, scary thing for a young photographer to do.
Once again, I needed to refocus…
Throughout the process of making my business official, I was scaring myself, getting caught up in comparing my work to others. I admire so many other photographers’ work, that I had to stop and refocus on my own work. I had to figure out why I was doing this in the first place. Every conversation about why I wanted to share my work with the world, always came back to one thing-joy. I am absolutely overwhelmed with joy when I am behind my camera. I wanted to share my view of the world because of the amount of joy I felt documenting my life and the lives of others.
I had reason after reason of why we shouldn’t start a business, create a website, etc, but my husband had several more reasons of why we should. Everyone has to start somewhere, and there’s no time like the present…So here I am: new site going, a busy spring and summer full of shoots (on top of my day job), and another year of growth ahead of me. As I grow in my journey through photography, my hope is that some of the joy I experience is passed on to you.
So here’s to a new year with new lots of beginnings!
